Thonis-Heracleion was founded in 800 BC. The city was a bustling port which acted as a gateway to Ancient Egypt for Greek ships. Over time, it fell victim to the power of nature and eventually sunk entirely around 800 AD. Rediscovered in 2000, the underwater city was a treasure trove of Egyptian history.
