The FIFA Interactive World Cup fever has begun. Only last month, the highly-anticipated sports title FIFA 08 was released globally and soon garnered over 10,000 players from 25 countries who regularly battle it to on the leaderboard in the online part of the competition via PLAYSTATION Network.
For the uninitiated, the FIFA Interactive World Cup happens to be the world’s only officially FIFA sanctioned global football gaming competition with presenting partners EA and PlayStation.

For this year’s event, participants from all over the world can compete on EA’s FIFA 08 using the PlayStation 3 console. Also, players will be able to take part in one of over 20 physical FIWC 08 Qualifier Events worldwide or online via the PlayStation Network.
Starting from today, the first live qualifying events have kicked off in Denmark, the Netherlands, Hungary and will then move on to Korea, Portugal and over 20 other locations worldwide over the next five months.
On May 24, 2008, the 32 seleceted finalists will travel to Berlin to compete at the Sony Centre for the ultimate title of FIFA Interactive World Player 2008. The winner will receive an invitation to the FIFA World Player Gala 2008 and a cash prize of $20,000.
The first round of players who have qualified fro the Grand Fial are 15 year old Christian Lonhart from Budapest. The Dutch qualifying event was won by last year’s FIFA Interactive World Cup winner Andries Smit (18) from The Hague, Netherlands.
