DaimlerChrysler India plans to give a facelift to the existing E-class range. According to company sources, changes to the mid-range luxury model of the DaimlerChrysler stable will be introduced at the end of this year.

The new look E-class cars will sport broader side rear view mirrors similar to the ones found on its S-Class cars. The three-point star badge on the grill too will be bigger thus enhancing its visibility and again, similar to the ones found on its S-class cars. The car will also have modified bumpers. The new changes will take place with the price hike in the model. When contacted, the company spokesperson said he did not wish to comment on the development.



The E-class (W211) has undergone various technical changes since its introduction in 2004. The model was first introduced as a petrol E240 and E220 Cdi diesel variant. Later on, it was hiked to E270 petrol and diesel variants. E280 petrol and diesel variants were launched this year and now spearhead the E-class range. Subsequent price hikes were announced during the product launches. Since January 2006, the company has sold 585 units of the E-class model (petrol & diesel) with an average of 83 units on a monthly basis.



Mercedes E-Class Selling Well In All Markets

To anyone worried how sales of the new Mercedes E-Class have been faring lately, we're pleased to inform you that the recently-updated model has taken over the lead in the upper-range segment worldwide, selling over 21,000 vehicles in the month of September.

According to Dr. Klaus Maier, Executive Vice President of the Mercedes Car Group and the man responsible for sales and marketing: "The outstanding sales development underscores the successful launch of the new generation E-Class. With its pioneering innovations, the car remains the undisputed leader in the field of safety and receives an enthusiastic response from our customers worldwide."



Sales of the E-Class have been particularly strong in Germany, where since it market introduction in June the new model has become the best-selling upper-range vehicle, currently holding a market share of about 45 percent.

Mercedes Will Build Next E-Class in India

MUMBAI, India Mercedes-Benz plans to assemble the next-generation E-Class at its Pune plant in 2010, about nine months after the vehicle makes its international debut.



Mercedes currently assembles the C-, E- and S-Class lines in India. German rival BMW has chosen instead to market its high-end models in India as completely built-up (CBU) imports. BMW sells the 7 Series sedan and 6 Series coupe and convertible in India and has said it plans to begin importing the 3 Series coupe and convertible in 2008.
