Bannerman Castle Pollepel Island New York

Let's have a pictorial visit to Bannerman Castle in the Pollepel Island near New York. Pollepel Island is about 50 miles north of New York City and about 1,000 feet (300 m) from the Hudson River's eastern bank. It contains about 6.5 acres (26,000 m2), most of it rock.

The island is actually called Pollepel and was bought by the Bannerman family jut over 100 years ago. The owner, Frank Bannerman, sold ammunition and other antiques and used the island to store his inventory. The castle that he built, was the warehouse, and was built based on his drawings of castles he saw in Europe (mainly Scotland) in the early 1900s.
