Dan Wheldon Dies in Massive Crash - Indy Race

Dan Wheldon, who moved to the United States from his native England with hopes of winning the Indianapolis 500 and went on to twice prevail in the famed race, died Sunday after a massive, fiery wreck that involved 15 cars at the Las Vegas Indy 300. Mr. Wheldon, 33, was one of the most popular IndyCar Series drivers.

With the incident taking place during lap thirteen, Wheldon’s race car was thrown into the air and overtop another vehicle before smashing back onto the track. Being transported to a local hospital for treatment, it was later sadly announced that 33-year-old Wheldon had died from injuries sustained in the incident.
