The very special thing about the circuit is that the race which will take place here will be the first night-time event in the history of Formula One. However, there are still some safety reservations and the organizers are making sure everything goes according to plan. Formula One CEO Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed a night race by saying that this will be the first fully lit night race.
The new race is scheduled to take place towards the end of the calendar in late September. The timing of the night event means it can be broadcast at a convenient time for European TV audiences as well as thrilling local fans. It is also expected to have a hugely positive economic impact on the region.
Grandstand seating and hospitality areas lining the track will be able to accommodate more than 80,000 spectators, while a permanent pit area with deluxe paddock facilities will be built adjacent to the existing Singapore Flyer complex.
The race is anticipating a good turn-out of motorsport fans from around the globe. Particularly all eyes will be on the technically challenging circuit that will test drivers and their cars as they are likely to reach a maximum speed in excess of 300 km per hour.
A new 1.2 km road that forms eastern section of the circuit will also be constructed alongside the pit building. Work on the pit building is scheduled to be completed by end May 2008.
