In 2007 Honda showed the world its CR-Z concept car. Since then the Japanese manufacturer has continually said that the car will make it into production. Now, with renderings floating around the internet, it looks like more of an actuality than a rumour that the new Honda CR-X will be unveiled at this autumn’s Tokyo Motor Show as the CR-ZX and be based around the CR-Z concept car shown below.

Now while I’d love to see this Honda cruising Kent roads near me, I’ll be very surprised if it keeps that fantastic looking interior, or the glass roof for that matter.

On the plus side though, it has been highly touted that the hybrid powertrain will be a 1.3 or 1,.5 litre engine akin to that which sits in Honda’s Insight. There’s even talk of a 1.8 litre. If it’s unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show as a production model, more facts will be available. The CR-ZX is likely to hit dealers early in 2010.

Honda ceased production of the CR-X back in 1991. While the renderings and production models are expected to see some changes from the concept model, they’re likely to be minimal in terms of exterior stlyling. If the CR-ZX makes the road, it’s certain to be the best looking production hybrid out there and makes the Insight and Prius look like they were designed in a previous decade.
