The Circumetnea Railway offers an easy and highly accessible way of admiring the picturesque panoramas of Europe's tallest active volcano, since it comprises a circular route that surrounds this majestic natural landmark. The route spans for 68 miles or 110km and begins in the Giarre village. During the trip, you would be able to feast your eyes on barren petrified lava views, citrus groves and various plantations or cactuses.
The railway was constructed between 1889 and 1895, and it now features a single car that runs on a narrow 950 mm gauge. Depending on the season and on various weather conditions, a single ride around the beautiful Mount Etna can last up to 5 hours.
