Amzing Trails of Grandfather Mountain For Tourist

Post by chandoo » Feb 27, 2015 Views: 631

Widely famous for its staggering height of 5,946 ft, Grandfather Mountain represents a North Carolina state park as well as a non-profit tourist attraction that can be found in North Carolina. Featuring no less than 16 ecological communities in total, the mountain is famous for its secluded caves and imposing cliffs, but it is also known for experiencing overwhelming wind speeds of over 200 mph.

That being said, it’s not hard to imagine why this mountain is considered one of the most difficult in the world to traverse and hike. The main ridge of the mountain features 4 peaks named Linville Peak, MacRae Peak, Window Peak and Calloway Peak, each flaunting heights of 5,295, 5,844, 5,949 and 5,964 feet respectively. Reaching the top of Grandfather Mountain is undoubtedly a rewarding experience, since it allows visitors to admire a remarkable Southern Appalachian spruce-fir forest. However, the main tourist attraction of the mountain is a bridge called Mile High Swinging Bridge, which can be reached by following the Grandfather Mountain Entrance Road.

The mountain includes 11 trails in total, some of which can be traversed with great ease while others can only be tackled by the most experienced hikers.

Grandfather Mountain is also prestigious for hosting its famous Highland Games, which honor the heritage of numerous Scottish pioneers by including various Scottish music performances and national games. As far as natural attractions are concerned, the mountain features superb ecosystems that are home to a great variety of wildlife, including black bears, cougars, river otters and Bald Eagles.
