Rihanna Road to Success, Growing Up in A Small Bag City

Growing up in a small bay city, Robyn Rihanna Fenty sang songs just for fun, she sang Mariah Carey's "Hero" at her school's talent show. As a teenager, she was just inspired by music divas such as Mariah Carey, Beyonce Knowles, and Alicia Keys. Unbeknown to her that someday she would be living in the same business and performing for as much audiences as her heroes.

Her path was paved when she met Evan Rogers in 2003; a New York music producer who was by chance went to Barbados for a Christmas vacation with his wife, a Barbadian too. Rogers was known for producing well-known artists such as Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, Laura Pausini, Rod Stewart and Kelly Clarkson. He then offered her to go to New York to record some music demos that was shown to Def Jam CEO, Jay Z, soon afterwards.

Def Jam promptly signed her and they quickly put together some singles. Her debut single, "Pon de Replay", was initially aired in August 2005. The Carribean-rhythmed disco single immediately soared to the 2nd spot of Billboard Hot 100 chart, even before the album, Music of the Sun, was ever released. She toured along Gwen Stefani, being Gwen's opening act in her tour. Her following album, A Girl Like Me was then released in 2006. Her other popular songs include "SOS" and "Unfaithful".
