Have an Orange for Better Sight as you Age
US University researchers report in (May'07) the that Vitamin C can decrease the risk for lens opacities, or cataracts, later in life. More than 50 percent of all people over the age of 65 have cataracts.
Men and women who regularly ate/drank (2 cups of orange juice a day or eat 4 oranges a day ) lowered their risk by about 65 percent. Previous reports have associated antioxidant nutrients, such as vitamin C with a lower risk of age-related cataracts, but this is the first time that scientists have shown that vitamin C, independent of any other nutrient, had such a positive effect on lens health.
Experts at University suggest that getting more than the RDA for vitamin C  up to 300 milligrams per day  may help maintain eye health.
