Once again he is wooed,
Once again he will be deceived,
Once again he will be fooled...
Once in five years he gets to see
This naked dance of democracy !

Promising elections free and fare
The official retires to his lair...
Some with politicians connive
They've been paid to shut their eyes!!
Others watch helplessly
This crazy circus of democracy.

Win the game whatever way
Is what the political bosses say...
Democracy is a game of numbers
So he has to woo his voters!!
Now he goes from door to door
Shaking hands, making promises galore!!!

Is being touted to con the voter!!!

A secular country we may be
Equality for all we may preach,
But secularism is the first sacrifice
At the alter of greed and vice...

They have forgotten that they are humans
Oh! this breed of politicians!!!

To become a peon, you need some qualification,
You have none, so become a politician...
Many are illiterate - just no education
Yet, they control the destiny of the nation!!

They encourage herd mentality
Alas! democracy reduced to mobocracy!!!

Bribery is not a crime any longer
As long as you fill the parties coffers!
Welfare of the people is what they have in mind!
So they grab in both cash and kind!!

They are humble servants of the people
Their families need to live in comfort!!!

Work for the constituency!!! Why should he?
He has all the 'pradhans' in his pocket, you see!
Crates of whiskey, wads of notes
Ensures that he gets the votes!!

After all this is just an investment
Money will multiply once he is in the parliament !!!

Crime and politics go hand in hand
Thus the importance of the henchman...
Voters threatened, booths captured
Those who defy? brutally butchered!!

Smugglers, bootleggers, mafia dons
These do our parliament adorn!!!

Play the drums, collect a crowd
A political campaign must be loud!
Beat your own trumpet with fanfare
The quantum of noise decides how popular you are!!

Posters, banners, flags and rallies
Just props in this demonic dance of democracy!!!
