To the dismay of many Indian viewers, it was observed that the imprint of the Indian flag was just near her feet.

The controversial sari was designed for Mandira by Satya Paul especially for coverage of the World Cup, being held in the West Indies.
Following strong reactions, Mandira reappeared in the same show sporting a different sari. The actress also apologised on the television show and said her intention was not to hurt anyone by wearing the sari.
"If I have hurt anyone, it was inadvertently and unintentionally, and I am sorry," Mandira said.

Earlier, she was involved in another controversy when the Akal Takht, the highest body of Sikh religious affairs, expressed displeasure after the actress displayed an Ek Omkar tattoo in Gurmukhi on her bare back during a fashion show in Mumbai recently.
Mandira later sent a written apology to the Akal Takht which was accepted.
