PREGNANCY: The UK has the second highest rate of
pregnancy among under 16s in the world
12-year-old girl has become one of Britain's youngest
ever mums.
The schoolgirl, from the South West, was reported
to have become pregnant after a one night stand with
an older boy.
She did not realise she was carrying a child until she started
suffering stomach pains and was taken to hospital, where
she gave birth.
Britain's youngest mum was an 11-year-old from Edinburgh
who had a child in 1996.
A spokesperson for relationships charity Life said action was
needed to reduce teenage pregnancies.
The UK has the second highest under 16 pregnancy rate in
the world, after the United States.
They said: 'We need to empower young people to make wise
choices about sex that leads to long term happiness.'
