The Chevrolet has installed Teen Driver system in it's new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu aimed at keeping teenage drivers safer built into it which encourages safer driving habits. The whole idea behind the system is that parents can use the system as a tool to teach teenagers in a number of ways. It monitors the trip with the teenager driver behind the wheel and parents are then able to review a report card which tells them various information about the trip. This includes maximum speeds, the distance driven and how many times active safety features were needed to be engaged.
The Teen Driver system will allow parents to set the maximum speed of the car from between 72 and 120kmh. If the set speed is exceeded the system will give off an audible chime sound along with a visual warning in the car.
There are other safety features built into the system. For instance, the radio in the car cannot be used unless the seat belts have been buckled. When a smartphone is connected to the stereo system in the car it can be put onto do not disturb mode. The system works alongside parents teaching proper driving skills to their teens.
In the US the fatality rate in car crashes for teens aged between 16 to 19 is almost three times that of car drivers over the age of 20. The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is going to make its debut early April at the New York Auto Show, with the vehicle being available for sale towards the end of 2015.
