ASUS G50 and G71 New Gaming Notebooks: The 15.4- or 15.6-inch G50 and 17-inch G71 that can be equipped with Intel's Core 2 Extreme quad-core mobile CPU. Both use NVIDIA's GeForce 9700M GT GPU with a dedicated 512MB of memory for not only graphics processing but other time-intensive computational tasks such as converting videos into other formats. The GPUs include support for technologies such as NVIDIA PhysX and other video acceleration and image-processing capabilities. Software drivers for NVIDIA PhysX and CUDA technologies will be offered as free downloads over the next few months.

The G50 weighs in at 6.2lbs and will be offered with Intel's dual-core processor, and support up to 4GB of RAM. An HDMI output is included. Buyers will also be capable of outfitting it with two 320GB SATA drives. The 15.6-inch G50, with a 320GB HDD and 4GB of RAM, is available now at Best Buy stores, priced at $1,250.
The basic G71 will include Intel's dual-core chip at 2.53GHz, and support for up to 4GB of RAM. A Blu-ray drive will also be standard. Users will be able to specify two drives with a 500GB capacity each. Likewise, Intel's quad-core chips can be optioned up for use in the notebook. ASUS has not revealed pricing for the G71 notebook.
