Samsung E200 Eco: Eco-Friendly Phone Made of Bio-Plastics

Post by sheeza » Aug 16, 2008 Views: 6886

Samsung environmentally-friendly version of its E200 slider phone called it the E200 Eco. To lower its carbon footprint, the company used bio-plastic for the E200 Eco's external case. The case is made from natural plant-based materials and not petroleum like the case on the standard version of the phone, saving 1.16 tons of CO2 for every 1 ton of bio-plastic used versus traditional polycarbonate.

And for a green phone, it’s no slouch. It features:

  • * 1.3 megapixel camera

    * SMS and video messaging

    * MP3 player

It features a special alarm that reminds you to unplug the phone’s charger once the battery is all the way full. No need to drain extra power than you need to, after all. The phone looks simple and perhaps a bit dated, but it’s a positive step toward environmental awareness in electronics. However, corn-based plastics aren’t exactly that fantastic for the environment. But this is a step in the right direction, without a doubt.
