Jeff Koons’s Puppy was exhibited in the U.S. for the first time at New York City’s Rockefeller Center. Rising 43 feet from its paws to its ears, the sculpture was formed from a series of stainless steel armatures constructed to hold over 25 tons of soil watered by an internal irrigation system. Over 70,000 multi-hued flowering plants grew from this steel and soil structure, including Marigolds, Begonias, Impatiens, Petunias, and Lobelias Perhaps the most intriguing part of piece is that it features an internal irrigation system to keep the beautiful flowers alive. Puppy is a truly original and breathtaking piece of public art.
