Be Carefull When Buying a Refurbished Macbook

Post by Ahmad » Mar 01, 2008 Views: 1061

Notebooks are no different to any other consumer product be it a car, a house or a fish tank and refurbished notebooks need to be given the same considerations of any of the mentioned products when thinking of buying one.

When buying any notebook model be it an Apple Macbook, Acer or Toshiba there are undoubtedly a wise list of things you need to be taking into consideration before you part with your well earned cash.

I remember my first car, for legality’s sake I won’t mention the make or model as I cant afford for some car manufacturing conglomerates to take me to court, but to drive the previous point home I was blind sided by appearance. Granted the car was used but this doesn’t dilute the point that with all things we buy we should be buying value for money. The car was a rust bucket on wheels but on first appearance it was made up to be a nice little buy. I’m sure you can guess the rest of the story. After a very expensive tow truck dropped myself and the now disfunctional and very broken car back at the car lot where I bought the thing less than two hours before, the sweaty little man who had sold me the car uttered the old adage “sold as seenâ€￾.

What has used cars got to do with refurbished macbooks I hear you asking? Simply this, don’t part with your money if your not sure.

Buying a refurbished notebook is no different to anything that you buy refurbished. Care and logical control have to play a major part in your decision making. Please don’t feel that this review is aimed at putting you off buying a refurbished macbook as it simply isn’t. There are doubtless 1000’s of great refurbished notebooks out there that will serve you just as well as they have served the owners before you. The problem comes from spotting the kippers amongst the genuine macbooks and that is sometimes harder than imagined.

To make things easier I have compiled a 5 point plan of things to be aware of when buying any refurbished product.

  • 1. Put your trust in an established vendor. Apple themselves sell a vast collection of refurbished macbooks and they come at a great price and with the customary Apple 1 year guarantee. Furthermore many of these refurbished notebooks come with free shipping.
    2. If its too good to be true then its probably too good to be true. Trust your instincts and don’t be tempted to buy something that you don’t feel is quite right.
    3. Seek advice from someone who knows what they are looking for. If I had taken a mechanic with me when buying my first car then I would have saved myself a small fortune.
    4. Shop around and don’t be tempted to rush in. I know you’ll be excited but rushed decisions lead to rash decisions. Your new macbook will be with you for a long time so it’s worth taking your time before buying it.
    5. Buy through a trused third party vendor such as paypal etc. If things do go wrong then at least you stand to get your money back and you can report the scoundrel who sold you the kipper.

Well thats it………….

I hope this review has helped you in your quest for buying a refurbished macbook.
