Post by ar » Oct 18, 2008 Views: 4308

KaKa ExeLock is a useful software, which allows you to passwordprotect Windows executable programs. It works on the program files thatare 32-bit Windows-9X/NT/2000/XP/ME executables. Usually those filesare stored on your system with default .EXE file type.
If youshare your computer with others, you might have a few programs that youkeep on your hard drive, but you do not want other people be able torun them. For example, you probably do not want somebody else to runyour tax preparation software, personal finance or email programs. KaKaExeLock is ideal in these situations, as it allows you to passwordprotect executables, so that only those who know the password will beable to run the programs.
Whenprotecting a program, KaKa ExeLock modifies the binary executableitself, so that it first asks for a password and runs the program onlyif a valid password has been entered. It does not change the Registrydatabase, nor does it save the password in hidden files or disksectors. Also, it does not matter whether you protect the program onyour hard drive or a floppy disk.
KaKa ExeLock is safe andefficient. Unlike other protection software, it does not run in thebackground to provide its functionality. With the other software, whichclaims to be password protecting, an intruder can simply kill theprotection program or remove it from startup group to disable theentire mechanism. Note, that KaKa ExeLock protects programs, not iconsso that it remains locked even if you run it from plain command line.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Will the protection still work if I copy the protected executable file to a different machine?
Yes, the protection will still work fine.
After I protected an executable, what should I do if my antivirus software shows that it has been infected by a virus?
Donot panic. KaKa ExeLock is not a virus. Antivirus software is correctin detecting that the executable file has been changed. However, thischange adds the password checking functionality of KaKa ExeLock anddoes not spread as a virus would.
