O2 Recycle has unveiled a mobile phone prototype made of pulped grass clippings from Twickenham Stadium's pitch to celebrate the launch of the Recycle for Rugby programme. O2 Recycle worked with designer Sean Miles to make the phone with recycled phone components and real grass. Shown at the England versus Scotland game on 14 March, the phone is fully functional and took over 240 hours to build, with designers using tens of thousands of grass blades for the casing and locally-sourced wood for the buttons.

The grass was freeze-dried, pulped and molded into a template. Once in the casing, the pulped grass was then covered in an eco-friendly resin made from waste materials. This eco-phone follows on from the recent Digital Butterflies collection created as part of the O2 Recycle wearable tech range, featuring products such as 'Walkie Talkies', a combination of recycled phones and vintage shoes.
