The world largest spiral escalator has been opened in a shopping mall in Shanghai it stretches seven stories. It was developed by Japanese firm Mitsubishi Electric who have been in the spiral escalator game since 1985. They didn't really have much competition other than themselves as they are the only manufacturer of such an escalator. You can find a few of their works in the U.S. at Caesars Palace Forum Shops in Las Vegas. The 12 new curved staircases form two huge spirals in the central atrium of the New World Daimaru Department Store.
