The tech giant Apple had introduced this software into its iPhones more than a year ago, followed by Samsung during the first quarter of 2014 in its Galaxy S5, whereas Google has made this a regular feature of its OS with the announcement of Android 5.0 Lollipop.
According to a recent report revealed by London Mayor Boris Johnson, iPhone thefts were down by 50% in the British capital.
While, in the Unites States, the number of stolen Apple handsets dropped by 40% in San Francisco and around 25% in New York since the software Kill Switch was introduced a year ago. New York Police claims that the significant decrease in smartphone thefts after the implementation of Kill Switch technology is not a coincidence.
Since the owner of the smartphone can make it completely disable, restricting its marketability by using Kill Switch, therefore smartphones and especially iPhones are no more favorites for the robbers.
This technology needs to land to the developing countries where such crimes are more prevalent and let's hope that local smartphone brands of Pakistan will soon be introducing this software into their devices in order to halt the thefts.
