Across the plains

of its travails and its pains
A life running over
its agony and anguish
Looking for some hope
a heartfelt warmth, its wish
Bewailing all it has lost
A hunger for love
that still has a say
Of the tears that don't stop
The blues that won't go away

I hear a sombre sigh
as it nudges me by
A free fall
fast going downhill
Moving all it caresses, at will
A troubled soul therein
So pensive and gray
It touches a chord within

Can I allay its fears
Can I give comfort
Maybe soften its tears
A heart full of ache
A wild windy trail
Leaving a mark in its wake

Entranced I stand, a strain
lost, beguiled captive
Maybe it'll pass yet again
with a breezy sway
And leave a happier missive
my way, some day
