Homemade Yogurt Recipes in Different Flavors

Once you learn the basic homemade yogurt recipe, you may want to
try vanilla, coffee, lemon or even tea-infused yogurt.There are so many
methods for making yogurt, find the right yogurt making method for you
hereThere are so many ways to flavor homemade yogurt or plain yogurt,
but you can also add some ingredients when you add the culture.Try
some of these variations:




Basic Homemade Yogurt Recipe


Ingredients:
1/2 cup plain yogurt for the culture (must contain live and active cultures)
Half gallon of the best quality milk you can get

Directions:
Heat one half gallon of milk over medium heat, stirring often.

You are going to heat the milk until right before it starts to boil. It will look
frothy and start to steam.The milk needs to be brought up to 180 degrees
Fahrenheit.The next step is to cool the milk. Let it set until it cools to 110
degrees F.If you want, you can cool it faster by placing pot in a sink of
cold water.Once the milk is cooled to 110 degrees, you can add the
culture.Add 1/2 cup of plain yogurt, stirring in gently.A little trick you can
use here, is to remove a cup or two of milk and stir into yogurt and then
pour the whole thing back in.Now the milk needs to set and incubate. The
cultures will do their job and turn the milk into creamy delicious yogurt in
about 6-8 hours.Either pour yogurt into a yogurt maker container or leave
in pot and cover. Then place the entire pot in a gas oven with just the pilot
light on.



Vanilla Yogurt Recipe


It's easy to adjust the basic yogurt recipe to make delicious vanilla yogurt
that can be used in fruit dips, desserts, smoothies or made into vanilla
frozen yogurt.

Ingredients:
1 quart of whole milk (the best quality you can get)
2 tablespoons sugar or your favorite sweetner (we like to use real maple syrup)
3 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
6 ounces of a good quality plain yogurt or recommended amount of yogurt starter

Directions:
Heat the milk over medium heat for about ten minutes or until it reaches
180 degrees F.Mix the above three ingredients together after you take the
milk off the stove.Cover and let the milk cool to 110 degrees F.
Once the milk in cooled down add 6 ounces of a good quality plain yogurt.
If you have been making homemade yogurt of course you can you that
too.Let it set for 6-8 hours and ferment.


Coffee Homemade Yogurt Recipe


Ingredients:
1 quart of whole milk (the best quality you can get)
2 tablespoons sugar or your favorite sweetner (we like to use real maple syrup)
2 tablespoons instant espresso
6 ounces of a good quality plain yogurt or recommended amount of yogurt starter

Directions:
Heat the milk over medium heat for about ten minutes or until it reaches
180 degrees F.Mix the above three ingredients together after you take the
milk off the stove.Cover and let the milk cool to 110 degrees F.
Once the milk in cooled down add 6 ounces of a good quality plain yogurt.
If you have been making homemade yogurt of course you can you that
too.Let it set for 6-8 hours and ferment.



Lemon Homemade Yogurt Recipe


Ingredients:
1 quart of whole milk (the best quality you can get)
1/4 cup sugar or your favorite sweetner
1 tablespoon lemon extract and/or 1/2 tablespoon lemon zest
6 ounces of a good quality plain yogurt or recommended amount of yogurt starter

Directions:
Heat the milk over medium heat for about ten minutes or until it reaches
180 degrees F.Mix in the sugar and lemon extract or zest after you take
the milk off the stove.Cover and let the milk cool to 110 degrees F.
Once the milk in cooled down add 6 ounces of a good quality plain yogurt.
Let it set for 6-8 hours.



Tea-Infused Homemade Yogurt Recipe



Ingredients:
1 quart of whole milk (the best quality you can get)
2 tablespoons sugar or sweetener
3 Chai tea bags (or another flavor)
6 ounces of a good quality plain yogurt or recommended amount of yogurt starter

Directions:

Heat the milk over medium heat for about ten minutes or until it reaches
180 degrees F.Stir and mix in the sugar.Let the milk cool to 110 degrees F
with the tea bags setting in it.After about 15-20 minutes, remove the tea
bags. Once the milk is cool enough, add the plain yogurt or starter culture
and let the yogurt set undisturbed for 6-8 hours.

Flavored Yogurt

In the directions for making homemade yogurt, why would it take so much more starter when making it flavored than it does for plain yogurt?
