Actually, most herbs and spices are quite healthy, but often aren't eaten in large amounts (they're just plant material after all). In some cultures like India though, enough spices are eaten daily that they really do add to nutritional value.
All spices (and most herbs to a lesser extent usually) have a load of different anti-oxidants in them which help the immune system and more. Even some we eat in the U.S. fairly often like cinnamon are anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, etc, etc.
