A top Republican in the House of Representatives has sent a letter to Google, asking for more information regarding its search practices and targeted advertising.
Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, the top Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee explained that consumer protection and privacy issues would arise if Google takes over DoubleClick, New York-based company which places and tracks online ads for clients.

Barton sent a list of 24 questions to Google’s headquarters located at California. All the questions are regarding data retention and privacy policies. Barton further said that if DoubleClick’s acquisition takes place, he would expect the same questions answered for DoubleClick too.
Barton also mentioned that Google’s executives rebuffed the meeting requested by them.
On the other hand, Google spokesperson Adam Kovacevich said that Google’s executives were keen to meet Barton’s team. However they were out of town on those dates.
Kovacevich added that Google would answer all doubts of Barton and resolve the matter soon.
Google had announced the deal in April, and is expecting the regulator’s approval by the end of this year.
