A new research has found that woman who drink more fat free milk and have higher intakes of calcium and vitamin D from foods, have lower incidence of developing hypertension or high blood pressure.

Harvard researchers examined the dietary intakes of about 30,000 middle-aged and older women and found that women who consumed two or more servings of fat free milk each day reduced their risk of developing high blood pressure by up to 10 percent as compared to those who drank fat free milk less than once a month.

They found that women consuming more low-fat milk and milk products and had higher dietary intake of calcium and vitamin D were also protected against high blood pressure.

Hypertension is a critical factor in increasing the cardiovascular risk among women who face a number of health-related complications while keeping their high blood pressure under control.
