Farewell To Fall - The Graceful Departure of Autumn Leaves
As the days get cooler and frost is in the air, deciduous trees and shrubs put on an autumn show in all shades of red, yellow, purple, and brown. The splendor of crisp fall days and vibrant leaves brings to mind memories for nearly everyone who lives in an area where deciduous forests are the dominant vegetation. In many parts of the country, autumn leaves are an important factor in tourism.
Many think that cool weather or frost cause the leaves to change color. While temperature may dictate the color and its intensity, it is only one of many environmental factors that play a part in painting deciduous woodlands in glorious fall colors.

I want an end like autumn leaves
That gracefully depart the tree.
A life beyond the edge of branch
My season reached, a freedom's chance.
To drift upon a breeze refined
Descending toward my life's design.
To welcome all these changes sown
From light received to splendor shown.
And when I've reached my place of rest
I hope my life, by then, shines best.
As I depart this withered shell
With peaceful colors chosen well.

If I were a leaf on a majestic tall tree,
And I had the choice, of which I could be,
I’d be a maple to turn orange yellow gold
When the cool autumn winds turned warm nights cold.

I'd want to be high as high could be,
So all of the world would be open to me.
I'd sway with the wind, spring, summer and fall
Up in the maple so big and so tall.

Then one moonlit night in October's cold air,
A beautiful frost would come paint me with care.
All leaves would turn color, as God would have done
To give the world beauty for short days to come.

Then if I could choose on which day I would fall
I pick late October when winds came to call.
I'd choose Sunday morning so bright and sunny,
As sun through the leaves flowed golden as honey.

I'd pick the sweet moment, when the wind was just right
To let go of my limb and float nice and light
Drifting ever so calmly from the place of my birth,
Then gently lie down to my rest here on earth.

Fiery flames of red and orange
Lit by late year sunshine's golden afterglow
Set against a backdrop of harvest bounty-
Fields of apple garnished trees, and pumpkin studded vines,
And the lush, round globes hanging

The loveliness of Autumn in her multi-colored dress,
Of reds, yellows, oranges and ruddy-brown hues;
Clothed in her season's bright luxuriant apparel,
She exudes all the charm that God's nature imbues.

In Autumn Mother Nature
turns out in full array.
Her multi-colored splendor,
a dazzling display.
Leaves like painted jewels,
pleasing to the eye.
Transformation's brewing
in the solemn autumn sky.

The Autumn leaves are brilliant
In their bright and muted hues;
They are, for all the world to see,
Heralding the news.
Never are the leaves so grand
As in their Autumn glory;
As they bid us fond farewell,

November, the third season of our life,
Represents the shade
Of dreams and
Changes we made.
The yellow leaf represents
The sunny days of youth
When the idealist within
Strived for truth.

Red, gold, and yellow color the hills and valleys.
Autumns leaves have cloaked the trees in glory.
A final burst of color to warm the soul before
Winter takes the reins and rules the earth.

Drifting down with shimmering paper sound
like a thousand people clapping miles away
Last hoorah before surrendering to wicked wind
and sleeping there on wet soil,
nourishment for others.
They have saved their best for last.

A red leaf here
a yellow leaf there
a brown one, a green one, there's one everywhere
so colorful, so crisp
nothing else in the word
is like the smell of
fresh autumn leaves
falling to the ground

The earth sighs as morning lites upon a lawn
frosted like an old photograph
worn by pocket after pocket,
respected like the cool air that calms the impending commute.
