A'Hadiths

Guidance from The Prophet (saws)

Hadrat Anas bin Malik (r.a.) reported: 'The supplication most often recited by the Prophet (saws) was: "Allahumma atina fid-dunya hasanatan, wa fil-akhirati hasanatan, wa qina adhaab-annar (O our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the punishment of the Fire)."`
Related by Bukhari and Muslim.

Commentary:

The Messenger of Allah (saws) preferred to make supplications which were short and general in nature; and there is no better supplication one can make than beseeching the Lord Most Gracious to bestow upon them good in this world, good in the Hereafter, and safety from the punishment of the Hell Fire.It is reported that the Messenger of Allah (saws) would recite this supplication more often than any other supplication.

A'Hadiths

Guidance from The Prophet (saws)

Hadrat Abu Hurairah (saws) reported: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) saying: "By Allah, I seek Allah`s forgiveness and repent to Him more than seventy times a day.``'
Related by Bukhari.

Commentary:

Although the Prophet (saws) was absolutely sinless, and Allah Subhanah had forgiven his past and future sins…..the Messenger of Allah (saws) used to seek forgiveness from and repent unto The Lord Most High more than seventy times a day.

Should we then, who probably commit sins with every breath we take, not seek pardon and repent unto the Lord Most Gracious, Most Merciful?

A'Hadiths

Guidance from The Prophet (saws)

Hadrat Imran bin Husain (saws) reported: 'The Messenger of Allah (saws) said, "The best of you are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who will come after them. Then, they will be followed by those who will testify but will not be called upon to testify; they will betray the trust, and will not be trusted. They will make vows but will not fulfill them, and obesity will prevail among them.``'
Related by Bukhari and Muslim.

Commentary:

The Messenger of Allah (saws) declared three eras amongst the Muslim Ummah as the best generations:

1. the best generation was that of the noble companions (sahabees (r.a.))

2. the second best would be the 'tabeyeen' (the generation that followed the companions of the Prophet (saws).

3. the third best would be the 'tuba-tabeyeen' (the generation that followed the generation of the 'tabeyeen'.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) prophesized that with the passage of time, every generation will prove to be worse than its preceding one.
