Design Academy Eindhoven graduate Bas van der Veer has won the prize for best project at the school’s Graduation Galleries exhibition, which opened in Eindhoven yesterday. His designs were the ultra chic and uber cool integrated watering can and a smart biodegradable planter. The watering can is in the shape of a belly that automatically collects and preserves rainwater and refills the can that can be used to water the plants. So now, you no more have to waste your precious drinking water on plants nor would the precious rainwater get wasted. He has named this project ‘a drop of water’ and rightly so, since every drop of water is precious. I simply love the lime green color that just makes me want to own it immediately.

His second design that he calls the ‘Bioplastic Planter’ is a very environment friendly biodegradable container that makes the transport and planting of young trees easier. The planter supports the tree and when the roots begin to shoot the Bioplastic Planter biodegrades under the influence of light, moisture and mould. The material then becomes feed for the tree. In this way, it automatically returns into the natural cycle without causing harm to the environment. This is definitely the planter of the future!
