This year also saw the emergence of new breed of directors, who had the audacity and the tenacity to experiment and experiment into the realms unknown and come out with flying colors and the acme for this new breed was in the shape of Aamir Khan whose TAARE ZAMEEN PAR has made parents sit up and have a relook into the way they are dealing with their wards all over the country. The list for the year would include Reema Kagti for HONEYMOON TRAVELS, Sajid Khan for HEYY BABY and Balki for CHEENI KUM.
During the year under reference a new genre also came into the Hindi cinema about experiment with the noir or the underside of the darkness in a consciousness and this genre was best reflected through BHEJA FRY, EK CHAALIS KI LAST LOCAL, and MANORAMA SIX FEET UNDER, PARJANIA etc.
This new stream of experimentation was greatly facilitated by the sprawling of the multiplexes all over the country side, and the readiness of the multiplex owners to display the films which were off the league in their theatres. Their readiness reaped rich dividends. The success of this experimentation found its manifestation in the way the stocks of the film distribution companies and the multiplex owners companies pole-vaulting to the unthinkable limits. The splendid performance of the stocks of the companies was a confirmation about the fact that entertainment is a serious industry in the country, and it is the ultimate high for the common individual.
The year 2007, would also go down in the history where the Indian film industry was ready to lap up the tools of technology and leverage the emerging mediums of technology to expand the outreach. Who would have thought that a newly released film in Hindi would be available for download through a web for international audiences to begin with, but it did happen and the same was pioneered by Rajshri Films when they offered VIVAH as a download. It was the success of this venture that even made Yash Raj films takes notice of this fact, and they have also rolled on the plans to capitalize on this new medium of distribution.
With such a diversified achievement the entertainment industry of the country is going to be a force to be reckoned with and it is manifest from the fact that international distribution companies like Sony and Eros International have set shop in India. Last but not the least was the success that the dubbed films of Hollywood obtained all over the country which would indeed make the film producers of the country introspect about the quality of the product. The audience has tasted blood and would not be swayed by big names or big production houses to adapt a film; it is the content which is going to rule henceforth.
