Amerie In Love & War: Dear John New Song

A new track by Amerie has leaked and it’s called ‘Dear John,’ supposedly from her new album ‘In Love & War.’ You can listen to the track via Youtube below.

The song overall is okay. The lyrics are deep and meaningful, but the production has Stargate written all over it, and Amerie’s vocals don’t really mesh with the “Sugary Pop” ballad. This type of song is more suited for the likes of Jordin Sparks, and the song in Amerie’s case, is kind of safe. This song will grow on you, but it also reveals Amerie’s biggest flaw. She isn’t the most polished of singers, and her rusky vocals aren’t really suited for simple melodies like this. Thats why ‘All Roads,’ although being the same type of ballad, worked because it’s piano keys and percussions were a lot stronger.
