New Zealand-based Martin Aircraft Company has announced that after 35 years of development, its Martin Jetpack will be available in the market in the second half of 2016. The Martin Jetpack can have you soaring at an altitude of 1,000 kilometers at a maximum speed of 74km/h for around 30 minutes, according to the company's website. It can take off and land vertically and handle a maximum weight of 120 kilograms.

With regard to safety issues, the company says the jetpack's design protects the pilot, while providing a ballistic parachute system that can be deployed. In terms of utility, the company says that the Martin Jetpack makes tightly confined spaces more accessible and permits rooftop landings, even in cases where the space is covered with aerials and wires. It, therefore, could be useful in search and rescue missions, particularly in cases where helicopters cannot be used. The company has priced the jetpack at 150,000 US dollars, but despite the steep price, its got a number of people excited on social media in China.
