Tehran Times
TEHRAN -- The report on Iran’s nuclear activities issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency on Wednesday vindicated Iran of charges by the West that its nuclear program has “non-peaceful purposesâ€ÂÂ￾, a top nuclear official said here on Friday.

“In the latest report by the IAEA, the organization that officially investigates nuclear issues, it has been declared that no reprocessing activities have been observed in Iran, and the plutonium issue was also not mentioned since it has been resolved,â€ÂÂ￾ Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Deputy Director Mohammad Saeedi told Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

Certain Western countries have used a massive propaganda campaign on the reprocessing and plutonium issues to claim that Iran’s nuclear program is non-peaceful, and as a result of the doubts thus raised, Iran’s nuclear dossier was taken out of the IAEA framework, Saeedi said.

In a final assessment of the final report, with an examination of the previous and current activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei announced that there has been no diversion from peaceful purposes, just as officials of the Islamic Republic have repeatedly declared, he added.

He went on to say that the remaining issues between Iran and the IAEA are very unimportant and similar to questions the agency has had about the activities of countries like Brazil, Germany, and Japan.

IAEA inspectors are currently visiting the Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facility (UCF) and will later go to the Natanz nuclear enrichment plant, he explained.

Sheer lie

However, the report was not all positive.

Ali Aqa-Mohammadi, a member of Iran’s Expediency Council, said here on Friday that ElBaradei was lying when he claimed that the inspectors have not been granted full access to Iran’s nuclear sites.

Iran has cooperated with the agency in every way while observing its commitments to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and the agency’s claim about denial of access to Iran’s sites is a sheer lie, Aqa-Mohammadi told the Mehr News Agency.

Pressure on Iran

MP Reza Talaii-Nik said on Friday that by creating doubts about Iran’s future nuclear activities and by agreeing with the illegal demands of the UN Security Council and the West that Iran should suspend its uranium enrichment activities, ElBaradei is preparing the ground for more pressure on the Islamic Republic.

The member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said the presentation of an unclear and ambiguous report about the peaceful activities of Iran, the manipulation of international bodies, and the imposition of sanctions have raised questions about how international law is implemented.

Iran is most reputable member of the IAEA

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said here on Friday that the U.S. allegations about Iran’s nuclear program are one-sided and illogical.

Hosseini stated that Iranians’ achievements are based on indigenous expertise and meant to provide a better life for the current and future generations within the framework of the NPT.

Iran is the most reputable member of the IAEA and has fully cooperated with the agency, he added.

Returning Iran’s nuclear dossier to the IAEA and holding negotiations on the issue are the most logical paths to take to reach an agreement acceptable to all sides, he said in conclusion.
