Artist Is Present - The Crying Portraits
Performance artist Marina Abramovic is both the subject and live-action star of a career retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art. By far the most unusual part of the exhibit is a new work called "The Artist Is Present."
Any museumgoer can occupy the open seat across from Abramovic. Since the exhibit opened in March, over 800 people have participated in the performance — and quite a few have been moved to tears by the experience.
