Now Mobile phone giant Nokia has revealed that it would add support to Microsoft’s Silverlight Web video technology to millions of its handsets. This strategic announcement is thanks to an alliance that has taken place between the titans. The news was broken today at Microsoft’s Mix ‘08 conference.

Nokia stated that Silverlight would first be available for S60 software platform and would be employed in more highly-developed phones from not only Nokia but also those developed by LG and Samsung. However, eventually it will also be used for S40, which is used in many of Nokia’s mid-range and low-range handsets.
As a record, the UK-based mobile phone software firm Symbian’s operating system S60 is used in every second smartphone sold worldwide, and is present in more than 150 million phones sold so far.
Ironically, its closest rival is Microsoft’s own Windows Mobile, with just a little over 10 percent of the market.
Microsoft’s Silverlight has Adobe’s Flash Media Solution as its rival. Adobe’s program is aimed at customers who need to deliver live and on-demand streaming media applications.
