Fuengirola Mosque, also known as "Islamic Cultural Center Suhail" was effectively inaugurated in December 1992 (1413 Hijra) and officially in October 1993 (18 Rabi 'II 1414 Hijra). The idea of a mosque in Fuengirola that would bring together all Muslims living in the Costa del Sol and adjacent provinces arose from an elite group including Mohamed Bashir Kurdi, Asad Muhammad Abdullah Bakir and others. Gradually this idea was gaining popularity, winning the support of prominent Islamic figures and local politicians who understood the importance of building a mosque that would help Muslims to preserve their identity in harmony with the process of integration into the society host, and which would imply a bridge meeting of different cultures and religions, for, through constructive dialogue, to reach a better understanding, getting, thus creating a better world.
