Offices house a number of electronic equipment and thus incur a lot of costs, besides leaving behind a huge environmental footprint. Thus, Xerox has unveiled software assessment tool called the Sustainability Calculator which has been designed to pinpoint opportunities to reduce the impact on the environment while reducing costs.

The Sustainability Calculator evaluates the current office environment that consists of printers, copiers, multifunctional devices and of course computers.

It then measures environmental benefits that could be achieved in terms of energy and paper use, solid waste, air and greenhouse gas emissions.

John Kelly, president, Xerox Global Services North America said, “This calculator cracks the code to help offices of any size really understand just how ’green’ their offices are or could be.”

“The same people who are environmentally conscious at home are starting to bring this awareness to work, but in many cases, they didn’t know where to start. We designed the Sustainability Calculator to be an effective environmental assessment tool. It provides customers with actionable recommendations to help them achieve their ’green’ objectives and in doing so realize cost-savings and efficiency gains that come with an optimized office environment,” explained Kelly.

A good feature of the Sustainability Calculator is that it not only tracks document technology from Xerox but also devices manufactured by other companies.

So how exactly does this software work? The Sustainability Calculator employs proprietary algorithms and document assessment research to deliver data about all the company’s equipment. It also provides information on the impact of printing on two sides or using different types of papers.

The quick Web-based assessment also provides how-to tips and advice on smart ways to make offices greener.
