Vertical Park - Enjoy in the Air
A design proposal by London-based architects Anthi Grapsa and Konstantinos Chalaris seeks to revitalize Piraeus Tower with certain plant nurseries embedded to its façade. The concept, dubbed as Engineered Biotopes, will utilize modern agricultural techniques through the construction and allowance of 2-sqm of green space per person.
The park will grow on a two-story, vibrant pedestal that accommodates a grid of glass tubes that nurture seedlings. Numerous small biotopes, ascending from floors 3 to 22, will deck the frontage in a distinct green hue. Just to ensure that the plants get sufficient sunlight exposure and water supply, the modules can be re-positioned by a robotic crane. The design was suggested for the Piraeus Tower 2010 competition.
