Pencil-length custom Intel CPUs in the MacBook Air are not Apple exclusives. Macworld reports that at least two PC notebook makers will be using the chips, according to a "source familiar with Intel’s plans", although the companies are unnamed.
That's no surprise. Apple might have sold more Macs than ever before in the last quarter (2,164,000), but tooling up to make a new chip is a billion dollar undertaking, and Intel will be looking to sell the new chips into the much larger PC market. And if you were wondering just how long is a pencil, we checked. It's slightly shorter than a piece of string.
