Sony HVR-Z5U considered necessary for a small-scale movie crew, reporters and similar teams. This includes two XLR inputs for microphones as well as DVCAM and timecode support; an optional HVR-MRC1K back adds CompactFlash support and lets the videographer either extend recording time to the flash medium or record simultaneously and in sync as a backup.
The Z5U ships last of all the announcements and appears in December for $4,950; the MR1CK arrives in October for $940 and will already work with Sony's higher-end Z7U and S270U.

BTW, I think it's safe to say that this camera will sell for around 3K or it won't sell. I mean add 500 bux and ya got removable lens, lot more pro looking and feeling and well just all around more )
And . . then there's competition with the HMC150 at 3K and although handy not too many will opt for the mru for 2000 list. it's gonna have to be cheap in this economic situation hey?

it's pretty much an hvx200 front end (lense and imager) that dumps AVCHD to a single SDHC card. no tape back up or other means of back up. has some other things like histogram, close up focus, etc. like the hvx but has the same low end lcd and some other similar features that are wanting.
the no back up scares us because we do weddings and event in addition to tv broadcast. the guys over at barry green's place at dvxuser are really talking about it like crazy as "the" camera for the market. check it out.
