Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja was on Sunday detained for questioning by the police on the charge of raping his domestic help and is likely to be put under arrest.

"The domestic help, who has been working at Ahuja's residence in suburban Oshiwara, alleged that the actor had raped her today afternoon," Deputy Commissioner of Police Niket Kaushik said.

"We have registered a FIR and called Ahuja to the police station for questioning in the matter to verify the facts," he said.

The house maid in her complaint has alleged that Ahuja raped her at his residence when they were alone, Kaushik said . Additional Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta said the maid will be subjected to medical test and police are yet to reach any conclusion with regard to the charge levied by her against Shiney.

However, the senior police official said, the actor, who is detained at the police station till well past midnight, is most likely to be arrested in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Ahuja is married and is known for his roles in films like 'Hazaroon Khwaishe Aishi' and 'Gangster'.

Shiney sent to police custody till June 18

Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, who was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping his maid, has been sent to police custody till June 18.

The actor has been booked under section 376 (rape), section 339 (wrongful restraint) and section 506 (threatening to kill the victim) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Medical tests were conducted on the actor and the victim early on Monday.

"As of now, he is headed to the court for legal proceedings. But, in any case, he will have to stay here in our custody for at least the next 10-15 days before being sent to the jail," a police official said.

The domestic help had lodged a complaint with the Oshiwara police station in Andheri (West) on Sunday evening whereby the police summoned Ahuja for questioning.

The housemaid, who's been working for over a month at Ahuja's residence, had alleged that Ahuja raped her at his residence when they were alone, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Niket Kaushik revealed to the press.

Actor of such popular films as Gangster and Woh Lamhe, Ahuja is reportedly separated from his wife and lives alone in Mumbai. He has a daughter.
