Ricoh has announced its new GXR interchangeable unit camera system featuring the world’s smallest and lightest digital camera with the ability to change lenses.Ricoh introduces the “camera unit”, which integrates lens, image sensor, and image processing engine, meaning the body itself does not contain an image sensor.Ricoh GXR Camera system uses slide-in mount system to attach camera units to the body.Ricoh GXR Camera system's body is built using die cast magnesium and its surface is covered with a corrosion-resistant “pear-skin” coating. There is also an image processing engine in the body.Ricoh GXR Camera system comes with a 3-inch LCD display.Ricoh brings two camera units, the GR LENS A12 50 mm F2.5 MACRO and the RICOH LENS S10 24-72 mm F2.5-4.4 VC. The former uses a 23.6 mmx15.7 mm (APS-C size) CMOS sensor with 12.3 Megapixel and its is obviously a lens for macro shooting, with a shooting distances from infinity to the 1/2x maximum magnification macro range. The RICOH LENS camera unit, instead, gets a 10 Megapixel 1/1.7-inch CCD sensor, Smooth Imaging Engine IV, 24mm to 72mm 3x wide-angle zoom and camera shake correction function.
