Most Anticipated Smartphones Of 2013
CES 2013 has seen the best advances in smartphone development over the past year and there are plenty of new features on offer across the board to be excited about. From the iPhone 5 to the new Android and its new capabilities, it’s going to be an exciting year for top-of-the-line and budget smartphones. Here are the ones to look out for.
1. HTC M7 Smartphone Smartphone
The much-anticipated HTC M7 is widely believed to be a hopeful new flagship handset from the currently ailing tech giant. Due to preview at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this February, it’s purported to boast a 4.7-inch display, 13-megapixel camera and the new HTC Sense 5.0 software.
2. Apple iPhone Smartphone
Apple has been characteristically cagey about information regarding the new iPhone, but early reports seem to suggest the team is aiming for a summer release date. Online speculation is laying expectations for higher resolution displays, HFC capability and the long-awaited wireless charging.
3. Sony Xperia Z Smartphone
Launched at CES, this new Sony flagship phone features a 5-inch display, Sony’s Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor, and a 13-megapixel camera. It also promises to be water and dust-resistant, with a durable glass touchscreen. It’s expected in the first quarter of 2013.
4. Samsung Galaxy S4 Smartphone
Originally expected at this month’s CES, the Galaxy S4 is now pegged for a May release. Notable rumours include the update to a five-inch screen, a 13-megapixel camera on the back and 2-megapixel front-facing lens, and perhaps most bizarrely a flexible, foldable display.
5. Apple Budget iPhone Smartphone
After a marketer’s comments dismissing the notion of a budget handset were pulled from news articles, speculation soon arose that Apple do indeed have a cheap build in the pipeline. Main rumours include the use of plastic casing to cut production costs, and a late 2013 release.
6. Huawei Ascend Mate Smartphone
Huawei’s new Ascend Mate, due in spring, could soon make the company a major contender in the market. A 6.1-inch display makes it bigger than Samsung’s Galaxy Note series, while its 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM mean it can handle games and video with ease.
7. ZTE Grand S Smartphone
Another CES favourite, ZTE’s newest build features the world’s thinnest touchscreen – just an incredible 0.55mm, with a 5-inch display. It’s already taken home a number of awards, including the 2013 iF International Design Award – definitely the style gadget of the year, due this spring.
8. Blackberry 10 Smartphone
The main buzz around this handset is not just how it runs, but what it will do for RIM, the company behind the device. With a 4.2-inch touchscreen, dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM, this is marked by many as a last-ditch attempt to boost the company’s fortunes.
9. Samsung Galaxy Note III Smartphone
The third iteration of the hugely successful Note series is expected to feature Samsung’s new eight-core processor, as well as a flexible screen and a display that increases past the 6-inch mark. It’s not due until September, so there’s still a lot of information to come.
10. Huawei Ascend D2 Smartphone
Huawei’s tech-heavy offering boasts an impressive set of specs, from its 32GB of storage to the 1080p 5-inch display. A 13-megapixel camera and 2GB of RAM bring it up to date with other current-generation phones, and you can expect a worldwide release before the third quarter of 2013.
Overall, it seems that all the major companies are pushing the boundaries this year in order to compete in an ever-growing market – so which one will you be looking out for?
