Mad Catz to produce Rock Band peripherals under agreement with MTV, Harmonix

Mad Catz Interactive, a third-party interactive entertainment accessory provider has entered into a multi-year licensing agreement with MTV Networks. Under this agreement, Mad Catz has secured the N.American and other worldwide territory rights to produce and distribute gaming peripherals for the well received Rock Band video game.

In case you didnâ€™t know, Rock Band is not just another music-based video game like Guitar Hero, but offers gamers a chance to interact with music, while challenging other players to master the lead/bass guitar, drums and vocals as solo artists or cooperatively as part of their own band.

Rock Band is available on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PS2 consoles in North America. A number of gaming peripherals are released for this game, which include a drum kit and guitars.

Now under the new agreement with publisher MTV Networks, Mad Catz will manufacture, market and sell a number of accessories for Rock Band which include both wired and wireless base guitars, a drum percussion set bundled with professional quality wooden drum sticks and a wired microphone.

According to Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz, â€œThis agreement with MTV Games represents a natural opportunity for Mad Catz to combine our core competencies of producing and distributing high-quality accessories with the entertaining experience of Rock Bandâ€™s interactive controllers. Mad Catz will produce premium instruments, allowing gamers and music fans to experience music in an entirely new light while taking on the personality of their favorite music idols.â€

Mad Catz expects its accessories for the Rock Band videogame to be available in the first half of 2008.
