Rumours are flying fast and furious about Kareena Kapoor getting ready to tie the big M-knot. Fuelled by a very obvious change in her of late – from being the speedy, dashing Bebo, she seems to have had a mind make-over, into a calmer, more patient and peace-loving girl. And non-controversial, too. Maybe sister Karisma’s recent Mommie-hood has enthused her towards wifely-hood; or perhaps it’s simply lover-boy Shahid Kapoor’s romantic spell. But we weren’t going to believe any such careless whispers, so we asked Kareena: Was the shaadi to be or ‘knot’-to be?’...

Are wedding vows on the way as the grapevine insists?

The news is total rubbish! There’s no truth in it at all. Frankly, the idea hasn’t even crossed my mind at this stage. I can’t think about it now - my good phase is just beginning. I’ll never let go of my career for a man.

So how did these rumours start smoking?

I guess it’s because I haven’t signed any film. I’m just holding back for the next six months, as I would rather be unemployed than just keep working on anything that comes my way. I’m not desperate to sign films for the sake of being seen. I’ve said no to about six films in the last two weeks. I want to work on a rocking script, a fab role and a good director. Or else I’m not interested.

Maybe your ‘wedded’, pati-vrata roles in ‘Aitraaz’ and ‘Bewafaa’ are fuelling the marital ‘fires ...?

Well, I had no problems playing any of those roles – if I can look glamorous and sizzle in one film, I have no qualms about wearing a mangalsutra and sindoor in another. I’m an actress, after all, and I’m here to entertain. I can’t hold the audiences’ attention by doing the same thing each time – right? So my choice of roles has been like a mixed bag of goodies. And that’s how it’s going to be henceforth.

After Lolo’s baby girl was born, all eyes are affixed on you; everyone’s asking, ‘Will Kareena be next?’

No ya! In fact, Karisma is the one who keeps telling me, ‘Stop trying to be Kareena Kapoor, the big star and looking beautiful on-screen; instead, concentrate on your roles and get into the skin of your characters.’ I’m so glad I followed her advice. I’ve got the best compliments and appreciation for my films like ‘Chameli’, ‘Yuva’ and ‘Dev’.

So now, how far a shot is marriage for you?

Honestly? Well, not for the next eight years, at least. Till then, cinema, cinema and only good cinema for me! But yes, when I get there, I’m sure I’ll love it, just like my sister did. I wouldn’t care about who did what, who said what, and who wrote what. It won’t matter then!

You think married actresses have a promising future in films?

An actress will never cease to be an actress. The face of Indian cinema is positively changing; there are strong scripts written for women nowadays. The kind of films an actress does over time can be different, but I think even after marriage she must continue working. I’m sure even after years after my wedding, I’ll continue acting. Work will always be my priority.

We’ve also heard about your sudden interest in spirituality ...

Yes, I’ve discovered that spirituality is almost magical. It’s awesome, as it teaches you how to surf rough tides in your stride. It’s about acceptance and perseverance. Spirituality brings so much peace and positivity in you, that at times you think you can take anything in life. Besides, in this world of fame and power, nothing is forever....what I have today will not be mine tomorrow. Spirituality helps you see things that you would otherwise overlook.
