In a statement made at CNN- IBN television channel, recently, the Indian Health minister Ramadoss appealed to Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan to make a favorable impression over populace they should avoid smoking in Public Places.
He told to CNN-IBN news channel, “Again I would like to make an appeal, not only to Mr Shah Rukh Khan, but also to Amitabh Bachchan and to all the other personalities. Children are being affected,”
Ramadoss, who is die-heard penchant for prohibition of smoking in pubic as well as movies as he supported his argument with stat, “There shouldn’t be any smoking scenes in movies because we have statistics showing that 52 percent of children have their first puff of cigarette due to movie celebrities,” the minister said.
However, 42-years king Khan reacted sharply to this appeal he said, “As filmmakers we should have creative liberties because cinema is all about make believe,”. And he further refuted the charges that he ever smoked in public places and expressed his concern for increasing percentage of smokers among youth.
The most noted celebrated Hollywood personalities both Bachchan and King Khan was many times faced protest by anti-smoking group for lighting up in public places in violation of 2004 ban. In October 2007, National Organization for Tobacco Eradication slapped a show cause notice on 42 year khan as he was spotted smoking publicly at a cricket match and at a media conference.
In order to prohibit smoking government in 2004 banned adverts for tobacco products to decrease number of deaths due to smoking.
