Ferrari is delighted to announce the presentation of the Ferrari 599 SA Aperta at the 2010 Paris International Motor Show. This is a special series model of which a strictly limited number of just 80 will be built. All have already been sold. Ferrari chose to build 80 SA Apertas in celebration of Pininfarina's 80th anniversary. The SA nomenclature also pays homage to both Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina whose company and work have been linked to the most successful road-going cars ever built at Maranello. The SA nomenclature also pays homage to both Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina whose company and work have been linked to the most successful road-going cars ever built at Maranello.
Even though most people thought that the 599 Roadster will look like the 575 SuperAmerica sporting a similar rotating hardtop, it turns out to be closer to the 550 Barchetta and comes with a soft fabric roof that goes away inside a cubbyhole in the trunk. The car also has better aerodynamics with lower center of gravity and low-slung windscreen. The chassis of the 599 is revised for the Aperta to provide enough stiffness comparable to that of a closed berlinetta and there is a negligible weight difference also, thanks to work done on the chassis structure. The front-mounted V12 engine is also upgraded from 620 to 670 hp to make even more fun to drive.

It boasts the 599’s usual front-engine/rear-drive layout, with the uprated GTO engine, a 6-litre V12 with 661bhp and 457lb ft of torque. The suspension is lower than a standard 599's, while the bodyshell has been reinforced to make up for loss in stiffness due to the lack of roof structure.
