Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds has been sent home from the one-day party to play Bangladesh on Saturday.

n a statement, Cricket Australia said only that the 33-year-old was sent home following a recommendation by the team leadership group on Friday evening.
Symonds has previously courted controversy over his behaviour.
He was left out of a one-day match against Bangladesh in 2005 after arriving for the game under the influence of alcohol. Australia are due to play Bangladesh in three one-day internationals, all in Darwin, with the remaining matches on 3 and 6 September.

Iconic former Australia captain, Steve Waugh, has torn into Andrew Symonds for his behaviour in Darwin. According to Sunday’s edition of the Daily Telegraph in Melbourne, Steve was quoted as saying: “They’ve done the right thing by sending him home.”

“There’s got to be consistency in the group and you’ve got to stand for something. You can’t have players doing that sort of stuff.

“He’s got to have a good look at what he’s doing for sure. He’s got to re-assess where he’s at if he’s doing these things. It’s not the first time.

“Sport, across the board, guys are getting paid a lot more money, you’re definitely more accountable for your actions,” Steve said.

Meanwhile, Sydney Morning Herald quoted stand-in captain Michael Clarke as saying: “It’s so hard to play for this team.

“In my opinion, we are the greatest sporting team in the world, and we have standards. They may be higher than other teams, but if you don’t fulfil those standards, unfortunately, you’re not going to be a part of our squad.”

“The main concern for us is Andrew’s commitment to playing for this team. In my opinion and the rest of the leadership group’s opinion, you need to be committed 100 per cent to all facets of being an international cricketer.”
